U16 v Dumfries and Annan
Girls U16
League rugby returned today for the Girls U16 teams. We have 2 teams in the SRU league this year which is split into 2 conferences, with a team in each conference so we avoid playing each other.
Unfortunately the Red’s opponents today , Caithness, had to withdraw from the fixture, due to a number of their players having Covid. Fortunately for us , Annan girls were without a game today and they offered to come up and play a development game. This worked really well, and our girls had a decent runout, with the game ending all square at 35 each.
The Blacks welcomed Dumfries to Hartree Mill for their game. This traditionally is one of our hardest games of the session , but due to the cycle of age groups with many of last seasons players moving up, they were playing a relatively inexperienced team. We were very quick out of the blocks and put some sumptuous rugby together in the first half , ending the half 52-0 up. This resulted in the game going to development in the 2nd half and allowed us to play girls in new positions to them, which hopefully will build confidence and flexibility.
Many thanks to Annan and Dumfries for making the trip to Biggar and giving us 2 good games.
And a message from the Captain
Hi everyone, I just wanted to say a massive well done to everyone today. In particular the girls who played their first ever U16 full pitch match, you all really stepped up today and I hope you all enjoyed yourselves. Well done to the red team with a score of 35-35 and the black team with an overall score of 90-5 by full time! I would like to say thank you to the black team in particular for being so patient with me during my first time as captain, I couldn’t have asked for better teammates. A massive thank you to Richard, Colin, Chris and Andrew for all your coaching expertise and support today, to Claire for all your hard work behind the scenes, and of course to the parents for the sideline support! Today was such a fab start to the season, keep up the good work everyone, you all did Biggar proud!
