National Shield winners!

What a TEAM, what a PERFORMANCE!!

Biggar Ladies stormed to win the National Shield after outplaying a gallant West of Scotland side who were defending the title they won in 2023.

The early league results suggested that this would be a tough, close encounter but Biggar set their stall out from the start, a great but very typical break by Gerry Kimm taking her over for the first try after just 43 secs!

Two tries quickly followed, these by Freya Lejkowski who would later be named as Player of the Match, an honour she thoroughly deserved albeit there were several others who must have been in contention. And while West replied with 2 tries of their own before the break Biggar went in at half time 28-10 ahead courtesy of a fourth try, this from Emily Coubrough and 4 successful conversions from Emily Armstrong.

The second half was almost a repeat performance with Biggar adding tries by Jen Bell (2), Gerry Kimm, Alexandra Philipps, a third for Freya Lejkowski and the last from debutante Lisa Brown. Conversions were added by Emily Armstrong (2), Freya Lejkowski and Emily Coubrough. For their part West added another two tries to make the final score 66-20.

A full report is included under Teams in this website but suffice to say that the day was as good as could ever have been expected: a full squad, a wonderfully sunny spring day, a quite fantastic red and black bedecked support and as good a squad performance from 1-22 that Head Coach Nic Humphries could ever have wished.

As always Nigel Pacey was on hand to record the game on camera - see the club Facebook page. The game can be seen in its entirety by following this link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p5SvKe86Hc
