Girls v Cartha & Gala

The 27th October was a cold but dry day at Hartree Mill, a fantastic setting for the U14, U16 & U18 girls to welcome their opposition, Cartha Queens Park and Gala Vixens.

We had a fabulous turn out of Biggar U14 players with over 20 girls pulling on the black and red of Biggar RFC. We where able to play 8 aside games by sharing and mixing up players with Cartha and Gala Vixens giving everyone a lot of really good rugby. Passing, tackling and rucking where all on display throughout the U14 games. It is fantastic to see girls of this age playing as a team and credit must go to their coaches for instilling this into them from an early age. Many tries were scored and the future certainly looks bright with most of the girls already enjoying a full set of skills. It was a pleasure to watch and see so many youngsters enjoying the game many thanks to Cartha and Gala Vixens for making the trip to Biggar.

The U16 team made the best of a lack of numbers having only 14 players available along with Cartha, however with it being a little cool at Biggar on Sunday this worked in their favour as all 14 players took to the field, mixed up and played a few games of 7s rugby. Big thank you to coach Nathan who refereed the games and managed to keep up with the U16 players.

The U18 Biggar girls where joined on Sunday by several Strathaven RFC and Annan RFC players which strengthened our ranks enough to allow a 14 aside match against Cartha U18 girls. A very tight match, with all involved enjoying the competition, final score Biggar 40 - 38 Cartha. We have been very lucky to have had some Annan players joining us for the last few festivals, they will be playing with their own U18 team at their regional festival this coming Sunday and we wish them well for those games. Sunday was the first outing for the Strathhaven players with our U18 team and we are delighted that these girls will also be accompanying us to Aberdeen on Sunday 3rd Nov for the SRU festival. A big thank you to both the Annan and Strathaven players for joining us, we wouldn't have been able to play the games we have without them, and our players really appreciate the chance to play as close to a full 15 match as possible. We look forward to enjoying a lot more games with these partnerships.

Thank you Cartha Queens Park and Gala Vixens for giving our players a great morning of rugby at all age groups.

This coming Sunday 3rd November we have two U14 teams and an U16 team taking part in an SRU series festival at Clydebank RFC, 11am start.
As mentioned the U18 Biggar/Strathaven team are headed to Aberdeen Grammar for their SRU series festival also an 11am start although the girls and coaches will have to be up and away much earlier than that.

Good Luck to all the Girls playing this weekend, U18s set a couple of extra alarms!
