Hugh was a regular on the touchline for many years before he offered to give the then Field Convenor Jock Muir a helping hand. As is so often the case his offer was immediately accepted and in no time Hugh soon took over the reins. This role is a challenging one because ‘how do you keep all the farmers who know best how to grow grass happy!?’ In addition, the job has increased in size by virtually one hundred fold with an ever increasing need for quality surfaces on all of our 5 (rather than 3) pitches, and as we are now responsible for grass cutting, a task hitherto undertaken by the Council. Our tractor has been a godsend for Hugh as is the additional ground maintenance equipment.
Pitch lining is another essential yet time consuming task in winter time which benefits from teamwork - volunteers always needed!
