We are delighted to announce that we have been voted one of Scotland’s Top Ten Rugby Force clubs this season. All clubs could apply for this award and thanks to Committee man Angus Thomson, who made the application, we received the great news last week after the panel judged over 100 entries. That means we receive £3,000 to advance works at the club and the date for this is Saturday 12th August.
Callum McCallum is also to be congratulated as he has been elected as an SRU Ambassador for season 23/24. Targeted with making a submission on sustainability, Callum’s application was well received and he was recently called up to Murrayfield to be presented with this title. The aim is to empower young people to take on responsible committee positions and spearhead their club’s climate action plans. There will be relevant training provided, and the Young Ambassadors will be able to put their best foot forward in tackling climate change – benefiting their club’s pocket, their community and the environment.
The club will receive £500 in respect of this award while Callum will be provided with equipment to film his efforts and those of the Club during our Rugby Force Day. He will also receive additional training on sponsorship, social media and climate action with unique experiences at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. There will also be an invitation to attend the Scotland v Georgia match at Murrayfield.
Callum will use some of the money to help produce content for the club’s social media platforms to help inspire the community to become more environmentally friendly through rugby as well as informing them of what steps the club are taking. The rest of the money will be used within the schools programme to help create material Callum can use to hand out to the kids which will be reusable and recyclable to encourage them to play rugby and help save the planet.
A plea is made for all volunteers to attend on the 12th to begin the annual TIDY UP of Hartree Mill. Starting at 9am volunteers will be allocated tasks based on age and skill set BUT a willingness to get stuck in is the most important attribute! If you can help please get in touch with Angus (07879 648 823), preferably by Monday 7th. This is important because all volunteers are invited to stay on for lunch at the club.
There is also an invite to all volunteer coaches whether or not they can make the Rugby Force tidy.
Our Senior Ladies, Colts and Gents are all in action so there will be a chance to see how the players have responded to pre-season training as they take their first steps towards the league season.
