Biggar Cluster Tag Festival 5th October 2011
Four local schools got an early taste of High School life when the annual Biggar Tag Rugby Festival was moved from HartreeHill to the Astroturf pitch at Biggar High School. After a 4 week period of coaching in the Biggar Cluster of primary schools by new Development Officer Andy Tither. 140 primary school pupils From Biggar, Carnwath, Coulter and Leadhills Primary's formed 12 teams to take part in the festival, which was for many their first experience of a Rugby Festival. Also experiencing their first experience of running and organising a festival were the senior year at Biggar High School who organised the draws and refereeing of the event. They have undertaken a 4 week Youth Leaders course organised as joint venture between the Club and the High School a partnership which is definitely bearing fruit. A special thanks must go to Blair Young Head of PE at Biggar High School for allowing the switch in venue at late notice and his continued support of rugby in curriculum time. A great time was had by all with every team playing 6 games, the standard of play increasing with every game. It will now be interesting to see if many come down to the club to play some contact rugby. The result of the final, which was contested by 2 Biggar Primary School teams was an end to end match with the Biggar Centurions victorious Andy Tither Rugby Development Officer 07898 800911
